Our Philosophy

“Those who fail to recognize that the past is a shaper of the present, and the hand of yesterday continues to write on the slate of today, leave themselves vulnerable by not realizing the impact of influences which do serve to shape their lives.” - Na’im Akbar, Ph.D., Breaking the Chains of Psychological Slavery - We believe that we are all products of our past experiences. That we are stamped by the lived experiences of our ancestors and the world they inherited and passed to us. We believe adverse experiences in our childhood influence how we think and behave as adults; and that chronic, generational, and historic trauma leaves unseen scares which influence and shape our lives. We believe anyone can have a traumatic experience, but how we respond to that trauma may differ. We believe that the understanding of how trauma impacts our lives begins healing and is the first step on the journey to a fresh start and a "Clean Slate." NOTES Trauma Informed Care (TIC) acknowledges the existence of trauma and the tools needed to begin the healing process.
